Thrift Shop Roundup - Where to Find Secondhand Treasures in Chilliwack, BC

Thrift Shop Round-Up

Where to Find Secondhand Treasures in Chilliwack, BC

Maybe it is the rising cost of living? The increased awareness of environmental impact? Or could it be the development of bidding groups and Facebook Marketplace? Whatever is causing it, there is no denying - Thift shopping has become a popular pastime.

Over the month of October, I hit the independent and non-profit secondhand shops here in Chilliwack to see what each different place has to offer.

Here is the list of shops that I had the pleasure of visiting:

Hidden Treasures Thrift Store

Located in Downtown Chilliwack on Airport Rd, Hidden Treasures was my first stop on the list. They carry household goods, small furniture, decor, and clothing. I was impressed by the cleanliness and great pricing on many of their items.

MCC Chilliwack Thrift Shop

Also located in Downtown Chilliwack, the MCC is a great little well-organized shop with plenty of home decor, clothing, and small furniture.

Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shoppe

Walking distance from MCC Chilliwack, the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shoppe is a quaint little store with clothing, books, home decor, and a decent shoe wall!

Finders Seekers Thrift Store

Hidden Treasures is the only thrift shop of it’s kind in the Vedder area. They are located directly across from the bottle depot, and have recently expanded their footprint! Don’t be fooled by the small shop front. They carry clothing, decor, books, records, and toys. They do have a limited furniture section.

Chilliwack Hospice Society Thrifty Boutique

By far the prettiest thrift store around, the Hospice Society Thrifty Boutique hardly looks like a secondhand store upon first glance. The beautiful displays are a sight it itself, and they seem to put a lot of care into cleaning and staging their items. They have begun to decorate for Christmas already, which is always my favourite time to stop in!

Mission Thrift Store

Located beside Hofstede’s Country Market, the Mission Thrift Store is on the larger side, offering plenty of clothing, shoes, kitchenware, sports equipment, furniture, and other treasures. Don’t forget to head upstairs for additional furniture selection!

Next up on my list of places to check out:

  1. Unique Thrifting

  2. Mission Thriftstore II

  3. MCC Yarrow

There’s now a way with Direct Food - https://vancouver.directfood.store - you can buy local, organic food products and have them all delivered to your door. We recently tried it out and here’s what we picked up:

DIRECT-MAY25_11.jpg

Easy, Quick and Fresh

We were surprised to find out that the products we were ordering were as fresh as they could be. The McGillvary Eggs were even stamped to show which day they were collected. The garlic looked so amazing and fresh coming to our front door. Direct Food prides themselves on providing you with the freshest of products.

The delivery was great too. We were informed of a window of when the products would arrive and the delivery person arrived right at the start of that window. They left the products at the door and immediately called us to let us know what was waiting at our door. Fast, friendly and easy delivery.

We’re going to be sharing more about our use of these amazing locally grown and made products over the next few days. It was a great find learning about https://vancouver.directfood.store and seeing just how many local Chilliwack and Fraser Valley products they carry. Check them out for yourself!

Fairfield Flowers - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

FAIRFIELD FLOWERS_03.jpg

Fairfield Flowers - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

Located on Fairfield Road on Fairfield Island at the north side of Chilliwack, Fairfield Flowers is a quaint little flower shop with everything from flower bouquets to hanging baskets, hydrangeas, patio planters and more!

It might be a great idea to hop on your bicycle and head over to Fairfield Island and check out the Fraser River via the dyke and snake your way through the roads to Fairfield Flowers to load up your basket for your ride home.

We got to meet Heidi, the owner of the roadside ‘shop’, and it was a real pleasure to talk with her for a few moments. She’s very passionate about her work and extremely knowledgeable to help you out with your flower needs.

The bouquets are quick and easy to pick up and go. Whether for yourself or to make someone else’s day brighter, they for sure do the job! We also grabbed a hanging basket that is really coming to life even more than when we grabbed it last week. We’re enjoying sitting outside and looking at all the flowers and colours that Heidi put together in the basket.

Head over to 47409 Fairfield Road (map below) and pick up some flowers yourself, you’ll be happy you did.

The Town Butcher - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

Town-Butcher-Chilliwack.jpg

The Town Butcher - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

We’ve known Bill from @thetownbutcherltd since he was a teenager. Watching him navigate his life through some incredible ups and downs, to opening his store over 10 years ago and being a part of his incredible wedding last year right before COVID hit, has been a real joy.

A19I6017.JPG

We can tell you firsthand that Bill gives everything he has to his business. He cares deeply for this community and wants to provide the best product at the best price he can give.

One of the best things you’ll get from the Town Butcher is the most delicious and perfect ribeye steak. No need to marinate or over season, just some salt, pepper and garlic on high heat. We are partial to cooking over charcoal on the Big Green Egg (you can learn about them from GP Home Furniture - gphomefurniture.ca/big-green-egg/)
Cooking high quality beef over heat is one way to impress your guests, when you can have guests over again, and they’ll remember that dinner and probably ask you to make it again! While you’re at the Town Butcher, you might as well pick up some twice baked potatoes to go with the steaks. You’ll regret it if you don’t.

Town-Butcher-Steaks.jpg

We highly recommend a visit to The Town Butcher and getting to know their incredible staff. You’ll be happy you stopped in. You can find them at thetownbutcher.com or visit in person at #301-5580 Vedder Rd

This farm rich community has only a few shops but of those shops is Flowers by Tinasha. Having come from a family of growers, Tinasha has not only the knowledge and history of plants and flowers, but the passion for the work she is in.

Shopping Shelves of Downtown Chilliwack

CIRCA VINTAGE 02.jpg

Shopping Shelves of Downtown Chilliwack

Shop in any store downtown Chilliwack and you’ll find immense pride from the owners and staff in giving their customers the best product and service they can possibly offer. It’s a common thread that ties all of downtown together. If you look at the shelves in the photos below you’ll see that despite being from different stores, the products are displayed beautiful and placed there by people who really care about you and your needs.

With the recent expansion of District 1881, bringing in new shops and services, downtown Chilliwack has become a much busier place. Take a moment at 5 corners and just watch the increase in both vehicle and foot traffic. It’s fantastic to watch and it makes for a stroll around downtown such a treat.

If you’re looking for an enjoyable Saturday, here’s a simple trip list you could follow:
Grab a coffee and breakfast from Harvest Cafe (end of Mill Street), stroll over to Circa Vintage (corner of Kipp and Main) and then meander your way back to up Main Street and check out A Bridge to Better Living Thrift Store (end of Main, right on Wellington) and keep walking to five corners on Wellington while visiting Creekside, Lolly’s, and Chilliwax Records. Take a left on Mill Street and say Hi! to the Button Box, then PickEco, and Did I Mention Flowers?.

By now you might be hungry again and you can head over to Bricklayer, Fieldhouse, or Bow & Stern for a snack and drink and finish up some more shopping at Spruce Collective or The Local Space (all in District 1881 - corner of Yale and Young). Then make your way back to Mill Street via Wellington and say Hi! to the Book Man for a new or used book to finish off your day downtown!

Those are just a few shops to check out too! There’s so many great options downtown, we would be hard pressed to not recommend Multi Pack Foods & Deli - corner of Victoria and Nowell.

Enjoy and explore our downtown, these local small businesses are working hard to give you the best shopping experiences and opportunities for you. Be sure to check out all of their shelves, there is so much great stuff available for purchase right here in town. These businesses are such a treat for us to have right here at home!

CHILLIWAX_FEB21_06.jpg

Chilliwax Records - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

The one and only vinyl store in Chilliwack is located on Wellington Avenue, right across from the historic Royal Hotel. This boutique record shop has every style of music you could be looking for. Carrying new release albums, to reprints and a wide selection of previously enjoyed vinyl, you’ll find something for your musical taste buds!

From their website:
The cornerstone of our business success has always been our relationship with our Customers. That is why Chilliwax Records will be working hard to ensure the communities of Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley have an enjoyable record shopping experience. Come share the love of music."

Our own personal experience:
We were trying to track down a somewhat obscure album online and weren’t having success (my son likes the band Neutral Milk Hotel) and decided that we should call Chilliwax Records to see if they might randomly have one in stock. Upon calling we found out that they did not have one in stock BUT could order us one that would arrive in a week or so. Fast forward two days later and we receive a text from the store saying our album had arrived. Amazing!

We met Joe on the Saturday morning and were thoroughly impressed by his amazing customer service and upbeat attitude. He was happy to meet us and get us set-up with our new album plus some freebies that came with the latest “White Stripes” album that we also purchased.

If you’re a music aficionado or you’re thinking about adding or starting your vinyl collection, Chilliwax Records is must a stop shop for you! Highly recommend them!

Hours of Operation:
