Payton & Buckle Fine Footwear - Where To Shop In Chilliwack

Payton and Buckle Fine Footwear_01.jpg

Payton & Buckle Fine Footwear - Where To Shop In Chilliwack

There’s something special about walking into a well-established downtown store that specializes so well in a particular item, that you know you will find just what you are looking for.

Payton & Buckle Fine Footwear (located at 45930 Wellington Ave map below - with locations also in Abbotsford & Pitt Meadows) is the perfect place to find quality shoes, boots and sandals for every member in your family.

The small and quaint store is filled with beautiful displays, and when we stopped in, they were fully ready for the fall season. Upon entering the store, we were immediately met by a wonderful employee who was quick to help with our requests. As the employee went to the back room to look for more products, we perused through the store shelves and found nearly countless options of footwear, and in various price ranges; from their sales shelves to the higher end displays, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for in foot wear.

In particular, we found the mens section to be surprisingly vast in its variety. Typically, a men’s foot wear section is limited to athletic or work safe options, but Payton & Buckle offered everything from work boots, to casual wear and dress shoes. Payton & Buckle is an incredible addition to our downtown core, and one that we should all be proud patrons of.

From their website:
”Owner John Laanstra has been in the shoe business for over 30 years, getting his start in 1981 when he was hired as a salesman. Nine years later he purchased a portion of the business. After a great working relationship with his business partner, he decided to buy the entire company in 2007. At that time with only one store location, Chilliwack,  he saw an opportunity and decided to expand the business.

August 2009 saw the opening of a second store with its location in Abbotsford and October 2013 was the opening of a third and located in Pitt Meadows.”

Kick Ass Cakes - Where To Buy a Cake in Chilliwack

Kick ass cake’s carnival themed birthday cake.

Kick ass cake’s carnival themed birthday cake.

Wedding, birthday or maybe just because?! There’s always a season for buying a delicious and immaculately decorated cake! Kick Ass Cakes in Chilliwack is an exceptional place to put in an order for a custom decorated cake.

We recently stopped by Kick Ass Cakes to see what they were up to and sample some of their delicious products. Located near the corner of Knight Rd and Vedder Rd (7484A Vedder Road parking and entrance as at the read of the building - map below), we know from experience that you will enjoy talking with the bakers and decorators, as well as checking out what they’re baking up next.

Kick Ass Cakes has been in Chilliwack since 2011 and has provided cakes for all sorts of occasions. Best known for their wedding cakes and cupcakes, they start taking orders in February for the upcoming summer wedding season. Their order list fills up quickly, so if you’re looking to get a beautiful and delicious cake made for your summer wedding in 2020, you will want to contact Kick Ass Cakes sooner rather than later!

During our quick visit with the mother-daughter team that run the store, we were able to witness the impressive carnival-themed cake made for “Robbie’s” 40th birthday party, as shown above, complete with a candy apple top and popcorn shaped cake pieces. We also saw the ladies making a simpler, but magnificent looking cake for a lucky 4 year old that has a love for Paw Patrol. To top off our visit, they pulled out some red velvet cupcakes and showed us how they fill them and top them off with cream cheese icing. Add the final touches of a few sprinkles on top and you have some cupcakes that were to die for!!!

Multi Pack Foods - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

Multi Pack Foods - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

MULTIPACK_01.jpg

One of the local ‘not-so-hidden-treasures’ of downtown Chilliwack is Multi Pack Foods. Located on Victoria and Nowell (behind the post office), Multi Pack Foods is one of our favourite little delis to visit for lunch. With their fresh made sandwiches, sausage rolls and fruit strudels, you’ll go in looking for one thing and come on out carrying a whole lot more, which may also include some of their daily homemade soup that they offer!

Multi Pack Foods offers a wide variety of meats and cheeses, and even does a lot of their own pepperoni (the short hot pepperoni is our personal favourite) and smoked meats, not to mention the beef jerky that’s made in-house.

If you’re looking for a great place to pick up Johnston’s Pork products, then Multi Pack is the place to do that! (https://www.johnstons.ca)

Stop into Multi Pack and pick up everything you need to make an impressive charcuterie board for weekend guests or a delightful sandwich platter. You’ll be able to create a wide spread of treats from the meat and cheese selection, and maybe surprise everyone with some of that blood tongue sausage and find out what they think of it!

You’ll love your visit to this family owned establishment - we sure do every time!

The Town Butcher - Where To Shop in Chilliwack

TOWN BUTCHER AUG19_37.jpg

The Town Butcher has been a main-stay for beef, poultry and fish products in Chilliwack for over 10 years. This store has been built around the value of good relationships with local farmers who grow quality products and value a high quality of life for their animals.

Bill Turnbull, the founder and owner of The Town Butcher, had a vision when he first started working in a small grocery store in Chilliwack. While working in that deli, he saw a need for high quality meat products that were sourced locally. He began to put together his vision for his store and launched it near downtown Chilliwack where he quickly became known as the place to buy the highest quality of meat products in town.

After years of trying to make it work on the north side of Chilliwack, Bill closed the store, packed up and moved to their current location in Garrison Crossing (on Vedder Rd & Keith Wilson - map below). This new store has thrived in it’s current location, and offers everything you need for a perfect turkey dinner or amazing steak BBQ. And being in the same parking lot as Garrison Greens is an added bonus for a one-stop shop (https://www.facebook.com/garrisongourmetgreensco/)!

The Town Butcher should be your next stop for some Twice Baked Potatoes, high quality hand pressed hamburgers or the ever impressive AAA Certified Angus Ribeye - a steak unlike any other.

The Local Harvest Market

The Local Harvest Market

Dan, owner/founder and passionate leader of Local Harvest.

Dan, owner/founder and passionate leader of Local Harvest.

We had the privilege of stopping in at The Local Harvest Market this week, and also getting a little tour of the farm and facilities. The Local Harvest Market is a self sustaining market that produces and sells products grown only on their farm land.

Their mission is to “grow and produce quality food, educate the public on the importance of local food systems and promote the development of local agriculture and food production.”

Having never been to the Local Harvest, we had some expectations of what to expect of their produce and fresh baked bread. The market not only lived up to those expectations, but were superseded by Dan, the owner/founder, who took us on a quick tour of the farm and facilities. The most exciting thing we learned on that tour was that the Local Harvest is an ‘open’ farm. During business hours (Mon - Sat/9am - 6pm) all visitors are welcome to wander around the farm and see everything in action!

Local-Harvest-12.jpg

The Local Harvest believes in sustainable growing, all year long. Everything they sell on site was grown on site. Vegetables are available seasonally and they use “sustainable growing methods and natural biological controls to produce the finest, freshest and chemical-free foods.” They do use cool storage and greenhouses to help prolong the life and availability of some of their produce, but otherwise what’s available in the market is whatever is available in season.

Aside from the great produce grown on their land, the Local Harvest also has it’s own bakery on-site that uses a wood-fired oven to bake their enticing breads, including wood-fired pizza. The smell of fresh bread that wafts through the market would require a lot of willpower to avoid, which no one would want to employ with the promise of such delicious, good, handmade, freshly baked bread.

The market also offers product from Anita’s Organic Mill, and we found some fresh cold-pressed juice from The HABIT Project.

Little Mountain Greenhouses Garden Centre & Florist

Little Mountain Greenhouses Garden Centre & Florist

LITTLE-MOUNTAIN-GREENHOUSES.jpg

Spring has sprung and that means it’s time to start getting your gardens ready! What better place to do that than Little Mountain Greenhouses (LMG)!

LMG is an independent Garden Centre that has been running for over 25 years. We love that they are open year round so you can stop in and find a fresh bouquet of flowers to help cheer up a house, or, find some cute succulents for a new display.

We took our time meandering around the aisles of LMG the other day; all of the primulas in bloom and the sun shining made for a gorgeous array of colours and fragrances, and their nice variety of fairy garden supplies had some of us planning out our next miniature magical garden.

The staff there are happy to answer any questions you have about their frequent classes and help with any gardening questions you might have; not only are they polite and knowledgeable, they’re incredibly friendly as well!

Be sure to visit their website to discover their classes, shop online or learn more about them - we discovered that 90% of what they sell has been grown at their location in the Lower Mainland. “Quality crops include: bedding plants, hanging baskets, perennials, annuals and poinsettias.”

We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that on site you can find Chilliwack Blueberries!

Little Mountain Greenhouses is located at 47558 Yale Rd (map included below)

Circa Vintage - Why We Love Shopping Downtown Chilliwack

It’s been a couple months since Circa Vintage opened and the shop just keeps getting better and better. Blossom with Quik Pik - Chilliwack Florist

Blossom with Quik Pik - Chilliwack Florist

We were first introduced to Quik Pik Flowers when we were a part of a video/photo shoot with the talented Sarah Sovereign.

Check out her “November Gold” series here.

When meeting Britt, the owner, we could immediately see how passionate she is about her job, her store and more importantly, the vibrant and original floral displays she puts together.

This floral gift shop is not your average floral gift shop. There are gifts to buy there yes, BUT those gifts are all flowers/greens/plants etc. There’s no little knick knacks, but instead, an array of greenery; from insanely gorgeous floral displays to a simple stand-alone cactus, you can find a gift for anyone in your life.

Britt is very keen on using locally grown flowers as often as she can. When we purchased a bouquet from her, every flower was picked from the Chilliwack area. It was quite something.

Whether you’re looking for flowers for a wedding, funeral, anniversary or JUST BECAUSE, Blossom with Quik Pik has EVERYTHING you need. Britt and her staff are extremely knowledgable and willing to help out with any budget, big or small. PLUS, they also offer delivery at an added cost, which makes sending flowers to a loved one from a distance, that much easier.

You can find them on Facebook here: facebook.com/blossomwithquikpik/

Blossom with Quik Pik is located at: 7425 Vedder Rd (right across from Simpson Notaries - map below)

Under the Willow Tree - Where To Shop In Chilliwack

Under-Willow-Tree2.jpg

What started out as a passion project and a channel for creativity has turned into a small business opportunity for Melanie, owner of 'Under The Willow Tree'.  Quaint and decorative with a rustic whitewashed board ceiling, this little downtown shop had us in love from the start.  Melanie’s store showcases trinkets, décor and clothing from local artisans and vendors between Vancouver and Hope, and also offers supplies for DIY projects.

With a variety of different decors line the walls, one corner carries a tremendous selection of plaster paint. Their website quotes: "We are currently the only stockist of Plaster Paint Canada paint products in the Fraser Valley. Plaster Paint is a "chalk like" furniture paint that requires no stripping, no sanding and no priming of your original piece!"

What makes 'Under the Willow Tree' unique is the amount of local artisans and vendors featured - not just from the Lower Mainland, but from Chilliwack itself. Of those Chilliwack vendors, the following are included:

Shimmer & Gold Designs
NanaB Designs
French’s Design
Vintage Spoonworks

Other vendors are from Aldergrove, Abbotsford, Pitt Meadows, Langley, Surrey, Hope and Richmond.

‘Under The Willow Tree’ also offers workshop classes where you can hone your skills ore learn new hobbies from the vendors themselves!  Learn how to make unique scrapbooks, wood signs, home décor items, jewellery and more. Visit their Facebook page or website for more information on their workshops (see below).

The store is located just 2 blocks east of 5 corners, at 46257 Yale Rd (see map below).

We would AND did!

Garrison Gourmet Greens

Garrison Gourmet Greens offers such a great variety of fresh produce; from Okanogan fruit to produce grown right here in the Fraser Valley, their year-round selection inspires new recipes and plates full of crisp colour.

Locally Obsessed - Fraser Valley Subscription Box

About Locally Obsessed.png

Locally Obsessed is a subscription box company that caters to local communities in the Fraser Valley. It was started by Nicole Meredith, who has lived with her family in Chilliwack for over a decade.

Wanting to combine a love of local shopping and a desire to be more deliberate with her consumption, Nicole realized that there was room for a new service in her community.

The goal of Locally Obsessed is to give people an easier way to sample local products and services that they might not normally encounter in their normal shopping. The original plan was to offer a subscription box of Chilliwack based products and services exclusively for Chilliwack residents.

local2.jpg

After a very successful launch, she has expanded to include local boxes from one end of the Valley to the other, Locally Obsessed delivers from Chilliwack to Port Moody sourcing products from Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Surrey.

Each month, the boxes are hand delivered, which cuts down on shipping costs and lets her offer perishables. Business of all sizes have been featured, from up and coming to the most established and a local business is highlighted each month in a blog post on the website.

The website (www.locallyobsessed.com) also maintains a list of all the products offered in past subscription boxes, with information on where they can be re-purchased when customers are looking to repurchase.
