Sardis Liquor Store Tasting Event - April 20th

Sardis Liquor Store Tasting Event - April 20th

*** SOLD OUT *** *** SOLD OUT ***

In the aftermath of Easter, we are so excited to share that the Easter Bunny has brought you our next Tasting Bar Event at Sardis Liquor Store. On Thursday, April 20th we will be featuring the acclaimed French Door Winery!

French Door Estate Winery opened in 2020 after owners Audra and Jason Shull acquired the vineyard and the buildings of Montakarn Estate Winery on Black Sage Road in south Oliver. They renovated the former winery, adding superb winemaking equipment that is needed to make both big red wines and whites packed with flavour.

The 10-acre property is planted with 100% vinifera vines on beautiful, expressive soils that have resulted in rich, lush, and character-driven wines. The white grapes include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. The reds are Malbec, Syrah, Cinsault (they are now the second estate winery in British Columbia to have estate Cinsault), Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Pinot Noir.

The French Door name reflects an insight the Shull’s had while visiting wineries in Provence, France. “Why are we even here?” Jason said, “We have Provence in our back yard.” That led them to think of their winery on Black Sage Road as their door to French wine country. “The lavenders, the lake, the orchards, the vineyards … it is identical,” Jason says.

A newer winery with prestigious vineyards, a famous winemaker (Pascal Madevon), and some serious press and industry support!

  • The 2019 Rosé Featured in “The Sipster’s Pocket Guide to 50 Must-Try BC Wines”

  • “French Door Estate Winery for Premium Wines” – BC Wine Trends

  • “French Door’s second release continues to impress” – John Schreiner on wine – Canada’s most prolific wine writer

Come join us, as Alyssa Shull, French Door’s Media + Marketing Manager, takes us through those beautiful, swoon-worthy French Doors of their estate, and shares their new releases – hot off the press as of April 1st!

Check them out on Instagram @frenchdoorwinery … Serious eye-candy!

We hope you are as excited to join us, as we are to have you try this beautiful portfolio! Mais Oui!!!

Saccomaniacs Ag4Autism 15th Annual Golf Tournament

Saccomaniacs Ag4Autism 15th Annual Golf Tournament

Saccomaniacs Ag4Autism 15th Annual Golf Tournament and Tradeshow Raising Funds for Autism Services in the Fraser Valley
Presented by RBC

World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 is meant to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of those with autism so they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society. The Pacific Autism Family Network (PAFN) works year-round to bring awareness and acceptance to Autism in Chilliwack and across BC.

In 2021, approximately 1 in 39 or 2.6% of children and youth ages 0 to 18 in British Columbia had an open case with the Autism Funding Program. In 2019, the rate was 1 in 50 or 2.0%. In 2023, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to 2020 data. Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls.

Steve and Antoinette Saccomano and family are hosting the Ag4Autism Golf Tournament and Tradeshow on August 17th to raise funds in support of the PAFN, which provides services and support for families throughout British Columbia. The PAFN centre of knowledge and innovation involves the hub in Richmond and spokes located in communities across the province. Funds raised through the Saccomaniacs tournament have enabled the PAFN to open and operate a spoke office in Chilliwack, providing much needed services to families in the Fraser Valley.

Through personal experience, Steve and Antoinette know full well the struggles that individuals and families with autism experience in accessing services and support, and are committed to continue to raise money to improve access to resources, awareness and education.

The 15th Annual Saccomaniacs Agriculture for Autism Golf Tournament, presented by RBC will be held at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club in Coquitlam and will feature groups of 6 golfers for a total of 182 golfers, featuring Fraser Valley products, food and services. The tradeshow has 30 booths, hosted by local business people from the agriculture, real estate and banking services.

RBC is the Presenting Sponsor, and not only provides financial support, but attends with the RBC volunteer team who greets and thanks every golfer as they arrive at the event.

“RBC is proud and excited to present the 15th Annual Saccomaniacs Ag4Autism Golf Tournament and Awards. Funds raised will support the Pacific Autism Family Network (PAFN)” Jacky Regional Vice-President at Royal Bank of Canada. “RBC is committed to helping communities prosper by supporting organizations and events that make a positive impact. Ag4Autism raises much needed funds to provide resources and support for families affected by autism. PAFN helps people access the information and expertise that they need.”

Ag4Autism has raised over $850,000 Net in the last 14 years. The 15th annual has a very ambitious goal of raising $150,000 in 2023, bringing the total raised to over 1 million.

In November 2022, Steve and Antoinette were presented with the Pacific Autism Family Network Gamechanger Award, for their 15 years of leadership in raising funds that have opened an adult learning classroom in Richmond and made the Chilliwack centre a reality.

What started as a small family golf tournament is now a tradeshow, tournament and fishing derby with over 186 golfers, 50 people in a fishing tournament and over 60 volunteers. The day includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring Fraser Valley products, food and beverages. The tradeshow has 30 booths, hosted by local business people from the agriculture, real estate and banking industries.

Ag4Autism Golf Tournament is a prestigious event that sells out within one week of registration opening, each and every year. This is a unique tournament in Canada having 6-somes participating in a shotgun tournament. The addition of the sturgeon fishing derby, now in its third year, on the Fraser River expanded the demographics, and the fun of fundraising! There are big fish stories to be told!

This culinary event has something for everyone, and the Saccomano’s are now inviting the community to be part of the 2023 event. Opportunities for involvement at every level: volunteer, sponsor, participate, online auction and donate. The online auction opens on April 23 and there are over 100 items to bid on.

Sardis Liquor Store Tasting Event - March 30th

Sardis Liquor Store Tasting Event - March 30th

We are very excited to share that our next Tasting Bar event at Sardis Liquor Store will be a Double Feature!!! That’s right! DOUBLE THE FUN!!!

We are thrilled to have both Dirty Laundry + Garden Of Granite Wineries join us ‘LIVE’!!!

That’s 2 Wineries, with 2 Guests joining us, sharing 2 Great Stories - both inspiring and unique!

These great brands are spearheaded by visionary Andrew Doyle and the team at Lone Tree Cellars (not the cider!)

Andrew will be with us in person to share on these adventures and Dirty Laundry Winemaker – Mason Spink will also join in as he celebrates 10 years with DLV (Dirty Laundry Vineyard) this year!

GARDEN OF GRANITE

A humble garage winery in North Vancouver run by a small collective of passionate wine folks. Sourcing fruit from around the world to produce wines that we love.

Garden of Granite Winery is situated in North Vancouver's burgeoning new Brewery District in Lower Lonsdale. Located on the 2nd floor of an old industrial building, right above their sister project, La Cerveceria Astilleros, a new Craft Brewery celebrating the vibrant culture of Mexico. The winery really is an old garage, so the French term 'Garagiste’, seemed apropos. Even more fitting, the term garagiste in wine was coined in reference to rebel winemakers who, without resources or a chateau, broke tradition and started making wine in their garages in Bordeaux. While North Vancouver is a long way from Bordeaux, they find inspiration everywhere, and we hope that we can inspire you to come check them out!

DIRTY LAUNDRY

The story of Dirty Laundry begins with Sam Sui, a Chinese immigrant who came over to help build the Canadian Pacific Railroad in the 1820's. After working on the railroad, Sam
started a laundry service in Summerland, BC. He soon realized that the cattlemen and ranchmen of the Okanagan didn't care much for waiting around laundering their clothes, so he added some additional ‘services’ and turned the upstairs of the laundry into a brothel and a gambling hall! It was said that the "Laundry" was done downstairs and the "Dirty" done upstairs…hence, the beginning of Dirty Laundry… and as all members of the Bordello Club will say… what happens at Dirty Laundry stays “Hush Hush” … For the record, Hush Rose happens to be their biggest seller and BC’s best-selling Rose!

Wings, Symbols & Myths - Chilliwack Cultural Centre

WINGS, SYMBOLS AND MYTHS  by Members of the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association

Nov 2  – Dec 10 202
Opening reception: Saturday, November 5    1:00 – 3:00 pm

O'Connor Group Art Gallery @ the Chilliwack Cultural Centre
9201 Corbould Street, Chilliwack
Open: Wed-Sat noon - 5 pm free admission

Man has always looked to symbols to represent an object, a function, or a process. Symbols created by the ancients often cloaked in mystery and the supernatural, walked hand in hand with cultural myths handed down from generation to generation.

Today we recognize symbols as part of our everyday life whether we are obeying a stop sign or adding emojis to our emails. It would be difficult to find a culture that does not have stories or myths that have been passed down throughout the centuries. Whether it be aboriginal stories, Greek Myths, or Norse folk-tales, these myths live through the years as they teach and inform future generations. Artists have brought these stories and characters to life through their drawings, paintings, prints, and carving. Their individual styles have endured through time as well.

Prominent in many myths are winged creatures. As a symbol, wings represent the ability to soar and reach heights otherwise unattainable. A powerful symbol, wings have been used to indicate success, aspiration, purity, and freedom. Variations on winged creatures occur in many cultures and are among the most used mythological images used by artists worldwide. In this exhibit, the artists of the Chilliwack Visual Artist’s Association present their interpretations of this intriguing, multi-faceted theme.

We are a volunteer based non profit club. Our olympic coach Americo volunteers all his time to this and doesn’t get a thing back other than the satisfaction of watching these kids succeed. We are barely scraping by to pay our rent and keep these kids training.

We are in need of a permanent place to train that is affordable and safe that we can use to open our doors for more classes and opportunities for the kids. We currently train at Evergreen Hall but it is too expensive for our budget... the less rent we have to pay the cheaper the fees for the kids. We’d like to be able to see them train for free or very little. We also accept donations of bottles and cans, wrestling shoes in all sizes for our kids, training equipment, cash and of course volunteers are always appreciated!

The Mission Hill Story

In 1981, the Okanagan was largely undiscovered as a wine region, instead it was renowned for the quality of its stonefruit orchards. Grape growers were just beginning to take risks, planting vines in unproven terrain.

Despite these risks, the glacier-formed valley offered varying soil profiles, long, hot growing days, and diverse microclimates. These distinct subregions posed an opportunity to cultivate wine with unmistakable terroir. This potential inspired Mission Hill Family Estate’s vision for the future of Okanagan wine.

Now, after being recognized as Canada’s only five-time winner of Winery of the Year and receiving multiple best varietal awards on the international stage, we continue to draw inspiration from the valley and the vineyards we tend to. For us, the journey is just beginning.
