  • Payton & Buckle

    • We popped into to check out their selection of shoes and love what they have to offer. The Vessi shoes look so comfortable and stylish too. Time to get rid of those New Balance shoes ;)

Plus you’ll find some great experiences to enjoy on Dad’s big day:

  • Chilliwack Murals

    • You’ll find some amazing murals in Central Village. Check out the alley's on Mill Street, the back of the Royal Hotel and a number of other places too!

  • Chillibowl Lanes

    • Book a lane for Dad and enjoy some time at the renewed bowling alley. Just be sure to let Dad win ;) Be sure to check out the upstairs where they have a new billiards and arcade section.

  • Johnny Jukebox Diner

    • Right next to the bowling alley, you’ll find an amazing little 50’s themed diner that serves great food and delicious milkshakes!

Chilliwack Mural Festival - Muralists Confirmed

Chilliwack Mural Festival - Muralists Confirmed

Chilliwack Mural Festival has confirmed nine muralists to paint from August 1 to 17 in Downtown Chilliwack. Muralists include Fio Silva, Guillem Font, Juanjo Surace, NEAN, Ovila Mailhot, Sophie Mess, Leon Keer, and Terry & Jordyn Horne. The muralists are selected by festival curators Carrielynn Victor, Amber Price, and Lise Oakley and include local artists from Chilliwack, Seabird Island, and Yeqwyeqwí:ws, as well as international artists from Argentina, Belgium, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

“I am excited for this year’s muralists to bring their artistic visions to the walls of Downtown Chilliwack,” says Lise Oakley, Executive Director of the Chilliwack Arts Council. “The muralists painting will be the perfect lead-up to the Chilliwack Mural Festival on August 15-17. This is when the downtown comes alive with vibrant live music performances, interactive art activities, food trucks, and an art market.”

International muralists include Fio Silva, a big-scale Argentine muralist born in Buenos Aires. The combination of animals and organic elements shapes the movement of her figures. Her works refer to nature, time, and strength. Guillem Font resides between Barcelona and Mexico City, where he actively develops and produces his artistic projects across various disciplines, such as drawing, illustration, engraving, scenography, animation, and mural painting. Born in 1977 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Juanjo Suracebegan his artistic journey as a self-taught artist and later worked as a 3D animator and illustrator in Barcelona, Spain. His work is often described as strange, eerie, and bizarre. It showcases high creativity and imagination. NEAN is the pseudonym of a Belgian street artist with a fascinating style who lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. Entirely self-taught, NEAN started creating on paper before turning to aerosol spray paint and a passion for portraits. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Sophie Mess creates vibrant botanical-inspired artworks that radiate with energy and life, resonating with a deep connection with nature, capturing its essence through bold colours, intricate details, and imaginative perspectives. Leon Keer is from the Netherlands, and is one of the world’s leading artists in anamorphic street art, and often presents his art by adding new technologies, such as augmented reality and video mapping.

Local muralists include Ovila Mailhot, a Coast Salish graphic artist and designer. Originally from Seabird Island in British Columbia, he lived in Chilliwack for several years and now lives in Lafayette, Indiana. His roots are both in Stó:lō and the Nlaka’pamux Nation. Ovila notes that he feels compelled to create new work and revitalize the techniques and approaches to Indigenous art. Chief Terry Horne is a member of the Yakweakwioose Band of the Coast Salish First Nation. He was born in Chilliwack and carries the ancestral name of the Siyemches, passed down to him by his grandfather, Frank Malloway. His preferred artistic medium is wood, mainly red cedar, from which he carved house posts, totem poles, and masks. He will be painting his first mural with his daughter, Jordyn Horne.

The muralists will paint in Downtown Chilliwack in the weeks before the Chilliwack Mural Festival, which will be held in District 1881, Mill Street, and Central Community Park from August 15 to 17, 2024.

Chilliwack Community Film Fund

Chilliwack Community Film Fund

We proudly take a seat on the Chilliwack Creative Commission at Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation (CEPCO). Part of being in that seat is building up and encouraging the growth of creative endeavours in our amazing city.

As a commission we review and encourage film production in our city; everything from commercials, TV shows, made for TV movies, films and more. With studios returning to their regular work we will start seeing more and more filming happening in and around Chilliwack. The Creative Commission has worked together to build a Chilliwack Community Film Fund.

The Chilliwack Community Film Fund (CCFF) was created in lieu of a filming application fee and acts as an incubator to develop local creative talent. The Film Fund provides eligible aspiring Chilliwack filmmakers the funds to produce an independent film.

Purpose of Community Film Fund – to promote local filmmakers and local film projects. Specifically, youth coming out of high school with projects vs larger established companies that may already have the resources.

The response from the production companies has been positive especially because the funds are channeled back into the film community. We’ve seen production companies happily donate towards the Film Fund and are encouraged to see our city investing into the upcoming creative people.

As for distribution of this fund, the Creative Commission recommended that the monies collected go to CIFF (Chilliwack Independent Film Festival) to support young Chilliwack filmmakers that require the funds. The funds can go to the making of the film to be submitted to CIFF. Taras Groves, founder of CIFF, is even willing to have them use his own personal equipment and to provide additional mentorship in helping upcoming film project.

We’re excited about the future of the Chilliwack Community Film Fund and the potential of helping young talent rise from our community.

O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy - Chilliwack Cultural Centre

O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy - Chilliwack Cultural Centre

Fans of Monty Python, Mr. Bean, and Dr. Seuss… Grab your teacups!

Reminiscent of classic British pantos, and blending physical comedy, quick-witted wordplay, and cleverly crafted interactive elements, O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy brings to life a holiday production that ignites the imagination and uplifts audiences.

For over a decade British Comedy legends James & Jamesy (aka Aaron Malkin and Alastair Knowles) have been flooding auditoriums with joy and laughter in their multi-award winning tea-themed comedies. Renowned for their impeccable timing, flawless physical comedy and movement skills, and endearing chemistry, the duo deliver a night of unbridled hilarity that will leave your cheeks rosy from laughter and your spirits soaring with festive cheer.

As the holiday season approaches, James and Jamesy are set to tour their flagship production O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy, which has worked its way into the hearts and annual traditions of thousands of theatre-goers across North America.

Having last toured the Pacific North-West in 2021, the duo make their triumphant return with O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on December 27th at 7.30pm.

“Theatre is in its essence an exercise in imagination, a suspension of disbelief,” says Alastair Knowles, who plays the eccentric Jamesy character. “O Christmas Tea focuses on, and plays with, this distinction.”

To James, on-stage events are make-believe and the audience is of the real world. To Jamesy, on-stage events are real and the audience doesn’t exist. This vast difference in perspectives dissolves as the play progresses, and audiences find themselves compelled to join the performers in the world of imagination and in the delight of ‘play’.

Knowles adds, “We want adults to leave feeling lighter, more playful, and a deeper connection not only with their companions, but also with the entire community that shared the mesmerizing moments in the audience.”

“We are thrilled to bring friends and family together. Particularly at this time of year, we are reminded to dream big, embrace imagination, and celebrate a childlike excitement for merriment,” says Aaron Malkin. “And for audiences that have already made O Christmas Tea part of their traditions, there will be some surprises we look forward to sharing!”

“Each year the tours expand and the show develops, which keeps the whole experience fresh and thrilling for audiences and ourselves,” says Malkin. “This year we are happily returning to Chillwack as part of our thirty-three city West Coast tour. We can’t wait.”

“Complete and utter fun… for all ages.”

This exhibition commemorates CSCL’s 70th anniversary, and examines the history of institutionalization of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in British Columbia, while highlighting stories about the ongoing journey towards inclusion and access in Chilliwack.

“Art connects us all, and helps us to bring community voices to this exhibition. This is an opportunity for artists of all ages and all experience levels to share their story and what ‘Wholeness’ means to them.”

The Chilliwack Museum and Archives is mandated to create experiences with local and global significance that encourage dialogue and inspire action, and to collaborate with the community to ensure that we operate in a representative, participatory, and inclusive manner.
