Sardis Liquor Store - Grand Finale Tasting Event

Sardis Liquor Store - Grand Finale Tasting Event

** SOLD OUT **

To cap off 2023, and our Grand Finale Tasting Bar Event of the year, we are featuring wines from the most famous appellation in France … Bordeaux!

Happening December 13th from 7-9pm at the Sardis Liquor Store (45610 Luckakuck Way)

The region is the undisputed wine capital of the world and is one of the most celebrated parts of France.

You should know it is not all about red wines in this region. We will be featuring Sauvignon Blanc, Rose etc and the only Bordeaux Sparkling available in BC (fingers crossed that it arrives to us in time).

Several of the gems we will be showcasing can be cellared for 10 – 15 years and have won numerous medals and achieved 90 points or more ratings from the renowned and world recognized palettes of James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast, Decanter, Gilbert & Gaillard, and the Concours Mondial de Macon (Concours de Macon was notably listed previously in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest tasting ever held in the world!)

We are so thrilled to have Simon Cavan Taylor with us “live” to host this event and take us through the line up as only he can and share the stories from these great Chateaus in the Bordeaux region. Some of the wines featured will even be from Classified Growth Chateaus. Truly extraordinary history!

A beautiful way to end the year and our Tasting Bar finale!

We hope to see you there! Book quickly as so many of you know the tickets go fast!

Very Very Improv Theatre

Very Very Improv Theatre

Very Very Improv Theatre, a new, professional improv comedy company based in the Fraser Valley, is set to produce a series of monthly performances at CoWork Chilliwack Studio starting October 7th as part of its inaugural season.

The COVID-19 pandemic slashed audience attendance at live theatre events across Metro Vancouver, yet the company’s managing artistic director, Langley resident Scott Campbell, sees the potential in the suburbs. “The pandemic triggered a migration of families from Vancouver to surrounding communities - families who still want the arts and culture experiences available in the big city.”

Campbell is a founding member of the long-running Panic Squad Improv Comedy and alumnus of Vancouver TheatreSports. He is leading a company of talented improvisers from across the lower mainland including his former Panic Squad teammate and Chilliwack-based comedian Cliff Prang.

“We’re working to establish a professional improv company in the Fraser Valley and add to the entertainment options here in Chilliwack," says Prang. “We know there are a lot of people in the suburbs who love watching great improv live but don’t want to drive into Vancouver. We’re filling that gap and having a ton of fun in the process.”

Prang isn’t the only Chilliwack-based cast member. Chilliwack’s Steven Krajnyak and Josh Wilson will also be featured at the CoWork Studio on October 7th.

In addition to monthly performances at Chilliwack CoWork’s Studio space on the first Saturday of the month, Very Very Improv is offering a full season of improv shows at The Bez Arts Hub in Langley starting September. Monthly Mainstage on the last Saturday of each month, Holiday Fishbowl Challenge December 28, 29 and 30, 2023, and Very Very Valentines February 16 and 17, 2024. The company will also be featured at Abbotsford’s Gallery7 Theatre’s annual comedy festival in April 2024. The company is also available to book for private events.

Tickets for all performances are on sale now and available online at veryveryimporv.ca/tickets

Children’s Day at the Harrison Festival of the Arts 2023

Will’s Jams to Headline Upcoming Children’s Day at the Harrison Festival of the Arts

In the midst of the 10 day Harrison Festival of the Arts, the Harrison Festival Society is delighted to announce its “festival within a festival”, Children’s Day. This fun and artistically inspired event will take place from 11am until 4pm on Wednesday July 12, in and around the Memorial Hall in Harrison Hot Springs.

As always, the day will include a range of hands-on activities and presentations, including indoor and outdoor concerts, crafts, a climbing wall, theatre games, and a tiny tots area.

The indoor feature performer in Harrison’s Memorial Hall will be Will’s Jams. This popular Vancouver- based children’s act is a rock and roll dance party, full of great, catchy songs that the whole family will enjoy. Will and his band were at the very limited outdoor version of Children’s Day in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. With the understandably tiny attendance at that event, festival AD Andy Hillhouse thought it would be great to bring him back now that we are back to a more “normal” festival.

Outside the Memorial there will be performances by Middle Eastern group Al Qahwa, who will educate while they entertain, teaching kids about the songs and music of that part of the world. There will also be shows by Vancouver Puppet Theatre, a masterful presentation of old school European puppetry.

Children’s Day Coordinator Lyndsay James has compiled a range of hands-on, crafty activities for kids to get creative with. The Chilliwack School of the Performing Arts will also be present, with fun playful activities for the theatrically inclined. Hot dogs and other goodies will be for sale by the Agassiz- Harrison Lions.

There is much to experience in the 10 days of the festival, so check www.harrisonfestival.com for more details. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate and are very accessible at six dollars.

The Suitcase Project - Chilliwack Museum Exhibit

The Suitcase Project - Chilliwack Museum Exhibit
Open February 9, 2023, to June 3, 2023

The Chilliwack Museum has a new exhibit open that we recommend you go check out. Learning about the stories of immigrants making their way to Canada and the USA and the journey of hardship and success that they have faced. As well as looking at artifacts and stories of ancestors and the troubles they faced.

The Suitcase Project asks yonsei and gosei (fourth and fifth generation) Japanese Canadians and Americans what they would pack if uprooted from their homes at a moment’s notice.

While these descendants of the internment and incarceration may never have to endure the same forced uprooting as their ancestors, Kayla Isomura’s work examines how they, and those descended from families who experienced other forms of discrimination, remain affected by this history today through a series of photographs, short films, and interviews.

Over the course of nearly three months, more than 80 subjects ranging in age and background shared their stories from cities in British Columbia, Canada and Washington, USA.
June 16, 2018, marked its debut at the Nikkei National Museum in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Visit the exhibit yourself Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, Thursday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. at 45820 Spadina Avenue

Fraser Valley Cider

After a 20-year career in engineering, Rachel Bolongaro was looking for a new challenge. While mulling over a few ideas she took a course on cider making to improve her home cider skills and thought ….hey wait a minute! Volia! This project was born! Founding her 12-acre farm in January 2014, picked out the site of the future cidery and made an offer.

In 2015 they built the cidery and with the help of friends planted an orchard of 1800 trees. With over 25 different varieties of english and french cider apples, their aim is to grow the types of apples that make the highest quality cider. Now in their sixth season of operation and what a journey!
