Last Weekend of Summer: How to Spend It in Chilliwack

As summer winds down, it's a good time to reflect on the sunny days we've enjoyed and make the most of what's left. Chilliwack offers plenty of ways to enjoy the last weekend of the season, whether you’re looking for a quiet moment in nature or a bit of family fun. Here’s how you can close out the summer on a high note.

1. Greendale Acres Summer Send-Off

Greendale Acres is wrapping up the season with their Summer Send-Off. It’s an opportunity to enjoy everything this local favorite has to offer—think corn mazes, a petting zoo, and farm-fresh snacks. It’s a great way to spend the day, especially if you’re looking for something that everyone in the family can enjoy.

2. Bontanica Sunflower Festival

The Bontanica Sunflower Festival is a must-see before summer ends. The fields of sunflowers are in full bloom, creating a stunning backdrop for a day out. Whether you’re into photography or just want to take a walk through the fields, it’s a peaceful way to enjoy the last bit of summer.

3. Klaassen Farms Sunflower Maze + U-pick

For another sunflower fix, head to Klaassen Farms for their Sunflower Maze and U-pick. The maze is a fun challenge, and picking your own sunflowers is a nice way to bring a bit of summer back home. It’s a simple, enjoyable outing that’s perfect for a relaxed day. PS. They have an awesome kids adventure zone that is free with any purchase from their farm store.

4. Swimming at Chilliwack Lake, Cultus Lake, the Vedder River, or the Fraser River

Whether you’re looking for a lively spot like Cultus Lake or a quieter location like Chilliwack Lake, a swim is a great way to cool off. The Vedder and Fraser Rivers also offer excellent swimming spots. It’s a refreshing way to take in the natural beauty of the area.

5. Splashing at One of the Splash Pads Located Around Chilliwack

If you’ve got kids in tow, the splash pads around Chilliwack are a hit. They’re a low-key way to spend an afternoon, with plenty of space for the little ones to play. It’s easy, fun, and a good way to stay cool.

6. Go for a Local Hike in the Mountains

Chilliwack’s mountain trails are worth exploring, especially as the season changes. Whether you’re after a challenging hike or just a short walk, there’s a trail that fits. The views are always rewarding, and it’s a good way to clear your head and enjoy some fresh air.

7. Grab Ice Cream at Banter, Kent’s, Mighty Moose, or Sticky’s Candy

End the day with a treat from one of Chilliwack’s local ice cream spots. Banter, Kent’s, Mighty Moose, and Sticky’s Candy all have great options. It’s a simple pleasure that feels just right as summer comes to a close.

Wrapping Up the Season

The last weekend of summer is a chance to enjoy what’s left of the season’s warmth and light. Whether you’re spending it at a festival, out in nature, or simply relaxing with an ice cream cone, Chilliwack offers plenty of ways to make it count.

Things to do this Family Day Weekend

Family Day is this Monday, February 20th. Do you have anything planned with your loved ones?

We love that this February holiday falls on a Monday, because it means you have the whole weekend leading up to it to celebrate! If you are drawing a blank on how to spend your Family Day - we have you covered.

We have compiled a list of great ideas and activities to give you inspiration:

Chillibowl Lanes

Chilliwack’s only bowling alley; This place is a blast from the past - quite literally! The shoes and equipment may be old, but some may say that it only adds to the nostalgia of Chillibowl Lanes. Founded in 1981 by two local families, this bowling alley offers fun for the entire family - young and old. For $40, you can rent a 6-person lane for an hour (includes shoe rentals). They don’t have a website, so we recommend calling ahead for operating hours and info.

Exit Escape Rooms

Have you tried an escape room before? Although suitable for almost all ages, this one is great if you have tweens, teens, or adult children who you are looking to do an activity with. They offer 5 different themed rooms, and have a special family discount this Family Day for groups of 4 or more! Head to their Facebook Page for details.

Dimensions Virtual Reality

VR is huge right now, but the upfront expense of buying the gear makes this hobby cost-prohibitive to some. Dimensions Virtual Reality is a great way to try out the tech and several cool games without the investment.

Other Family Day Ideas:

Swimming - Toonie Swim! The Cheam Leisure Centre and the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre are hosting Family Day swims on February 20 from 9am - 3pm. Admission is $2 per person.

Skating - Free skate at Sardis Sports Complex on February 20 from 1:30 - 3pm! Skate rentals are $5 and you can receive free kids rentals with the purchase of two adult rentals. Visit chilliwack.com/skate for more info.
