Creations In Isolation - Chilliwack Cultural Centre

Experience an evening of passion, power, and beauty with Ballet Jörgen!

Creativity, dedication and artistry reach new heights as renowned Canada’s Ballet Jörgen returns to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre with Creations In Isolation on October 10! CBJ takes to the stage with an enchanting mixed programme that will showcase excerpts from major classical ballets as well as exciting new contemporary works. With pieces from Romeo & Juliet, The Nutcracker and Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet®, you won’t get a chance to see such a repertoire anywhere else!

“We are so pleased to bring you Creations in Isolation at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre,” says CBJ’s Artistic Director, Bengt Jörgen. “While we are very proud of the work we have done to deliver programming digitally for the past year we know it will never replace the experience of a live performance. We are excited to be back on stage with our community in Chilliwack!”

Inspired by the perseverance shown by CBJ’s dancers and choreographers in the face of lockdown, Creations in Isolation is a wonderous performance built on the dancers and choreographers working virtually from home. While the COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges, it also sparked a new artistic approach for those at CBJ, pushing them to bring their own creativity to the forefront and explore new ideas that they otherwise wouldn’t have considered.

“Working virtually with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen’s dancers was such an uplifting experience,” explains resident CBJ choreographer Hanna Kiel. “It doesn’t matter if they are rehearsing in their living room or dance studio these artists are so positive and happy to be dancing. COVID gave us many challenges, especially in the dance world, but I feel in some ways it has raised our spirits higher and showed us how important it is to keep creating and dancing in this difficult time. I feel the dancers’ excitement in every rehearsal and this really inspired me to stay strong.”

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen has become a staple within Chilliwack’s art community with their vibrant and inspiring performances, and workshops. Creations in Isolation is set to welcome you back into the world of dance with a program that will showcase exceptional ballets that were all created exclusively for CBJ, by Canadian and Canada based choreographers. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to see just how far these performers have reached and let them sweep you up into the magic of an unforgettable program that you won’t soon forget.

With the constantly changing environment of a COVID-19 world, The Society strives towards keeping pace and making sure The Centre is functioning at the highest level of safety protocols, while also keeping the arts alive. The Society continuously strives to provide the community with a place to be immersed in arts and culture, to provide the community with a gathering place for creative expression, discovery, imagination and inspiration, and we cannot wait to welcome you back.

Creations in Isolation is generously sponsored by: The Chilliwack Progress, the British Columbia Arts Council, the City of Chilliwack, the Province of British Columbia and the Department of Canadian Heritage.

Creations in Isolation is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on October 10, 2021, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $25, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).

CREATIVE_04.jpg

The Chilliwack Museum & Archives is seeking creative pieces to display in the upcoming Community Art Show. The exhibition will be hosted from September 24, 2021 to January 22, 2022 and will feature imaginative works from the Community of Chilliwack.

The Exhibition will open on September 24, 2021 to coincide with Culture Days, a national celebration of arts, culture, and heritage. This year’s theme, Re:Imagine is based on the idea that throughout the challenges of the past year, arts and culture has emerged as a means of hope and reprieve from the difficulties of COVID life. What will the post-pandemic world look like and how can communities contribute to a brighter future?

“During the pandemic, creativity has been flourishing at home; often as a method of expressing how we feel in these unprecedented times” says Sarah Belley, Education and Engagement Coordinator, “our goal is to bring multiple demographics of our community together to highlight the talent and experiences of Chilliwack”.

There are minimal specifications on what can be submitted and there is no age requirement! Over the next week we will be highlighting the businesses, organizations and people that have helped make this amazing 1,000th Post Giveaway happen, be sure to enter before Friday!

Our first time we stepped in Cultivate Cafe (10015 Young Road) located on the corner of Minter Country Garden, we knew it was something different. We got to sit down and chat with Cam and Peggy, marvellous married couple and owners, to learn all about Cam’s cooking history and his deep connection to Chilliwack. They moved back to Chilliwack to set up shop and serve some incredibly good food.

Minter Country Garden is and has been a mainstay in Chilliwack for quite sometime. Brian Minter is a legend in the gardening community for his vast knowledge and passion for everything with plants, flowers, trees and the like. Not only is Brian known for his gardening skills but he’s also the one person we have watched firsthand that understands customer service better than almost anyone we know. He’s always willing to provide the help and direction in his store for anything and everything they have there. He’s even been known to call customers and show up at their homes to check on how their gardens are doing.

We’re thankful that both of these businesses are in town and that they share the same space. We highly recommend a breakfast or lunch at Cultivate Cafe and then some perusing at Minter Country Garden.

Butcher Bro's BBQ Seasonings

TOWN BUTCHER_WAGYU_APR21_07.jpg

Butcher Bro’s BBQ Seasonings

The incredible staff at The Town Butcher has started bottling up their favourite seasonings for you to take home and use in your own BBQ meals.

Some call us BBQ fans here at Around Chilliwack. We love cooking up everything on the Big Green Egg; everything from grilled Caesar salad, to fire roasted pizza, breakfast skillets, to cornbread and of course a nice cut of steak. You’ve developed a taste for good BBQ and with that have discovered and used a lot of different spices, sauces and rubs over the year. Discovering the locally sourced Butcher Bro’s BBQ seasonings has been a real treat.

We’ve had the chance to use a number of different jars from Butcher Bro’s and have been thoroughly impressed on how tasty and how easy it is to use. So far to date we’ve used the Nacho Taco, Traditional Smoke, and Steak Starter. All of have been exceptional and we’d recommend any of them.

If you love to cook and grill on the BBQ (maybe even on a charcoal BBQ like the Big Green Egg or Weber Kettle) then you’ll love using the Steak Starter jar for everything from burger patties, breakfast skillet or fried eggs and of course on any cut of steak you’re cooking up. We might even suggest picking up a rib-eye or Wagyu steak from The Town Butcher while you’re grabbing a jar of seasoning too.

One of our favourites to cook for the family or friends on the Big Green Egg is a cast iron pan full of nachos. What we love to do is grill/smoke up our meat on the Egg first - anything from pulled beef or pork, chicken thighs OR fry up some ground beef and use that same cast iron pan to layer up some nacho chips, cheese and your meat. Of course you’ve already added in Nacho Taco seasoning to your meat and now you’re going to add a little more on your chips and cheese. From there you’re going to bake up your nachos at 350-400 degrees and get that cheese all melty and smoky. You’ll never want to make nachos any other way again!

Cooking up eggs in the morning on your stove with some Steak Starter is also very good. It’s got the right blend of salt, pepper and garlic. It just adds that extra bit of flavour you’re looking to add to your morning!

You can pick up any of their spices at The Town Butcher (5580 Vedder Rd) or you can order them online:

The Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society and the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association are pleased to present the Sixth Fraser Valley Biennial at the O’Connor Group Gallery in the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from July 7 to August 5, 2021. The Biennial is a dynamic, collective representation of exceptional artwork produced by artists in the Fraser Valley region over the past two years.
